Is A Body Lift The Same As A Tummy Tuck?

Initially, a body lift and tummy tuck will like virtually identical on a front facing patient. They both remove extra skin and both are often performed on weight loss patients. However, the two surgeries are different. Let’s take a closer look at the question, “Is a body lift the same as a tummy tuck?”

First, a tummy tuck is a surgery that addresses only the abdomen and occasionally the flank area (during an extended tuck). The incision is along the lower abdomen below the natural panty line. The extra skin is removed, muscles tightened, and fat removed if necessary. While liposuction may be performed elsewhere, this is usually the end of a traditional tummy tuck surgery.

A body lift starts out in much the same way. However, instead of remaining in the abdomen and flank area, the incision wraps all the way around the body. The rest of the surgical procedure is much the same, it just treats a much larger area. This is often for people who have lost massive amounts of weight and need large scale skin removal.
