How Long Does En Bloc Surgery Take?

En bloc implant removal is a surgery that involves removing breast implants the surrounding scar tissue as a whole. In traditional breast implant removal surgery, the scar tissue is removed in at least two pieces. With an en bloc surgery, it is not cut away from the implant. This does add surgical time. So, how long does an en bloc surgery take?

The answer depends on several factors. The first is the size of the implant. Larger implants will take more time to remove using the en bloc technique. This will also require a larger incision, especially because the en bloc technique requires a larger incision overall. However, the size of the implant will only factor in minimally if other factors are present.

If the breast implant is ruptured, Dr. Sessa will need to be extremely careful during surgery to prevent the rupture from leaking outside of the scar tissue. This is the main indication for the en bloc method. Contracture may also increase surgery time or make it impossible to remove the most scar tissue possible with the en bloc technique.

Finally, the anatomical specifics of the scar tissue can complicate removing the implants and scar tissue as one. Scar tissue can attach to certain areas of the chest wall that become precarious or dangerous to remove. In some cases, it may simply require some extra time, in others, it may not be safe to remove this scar tissue.

Overall, an en bloc removal takes around two to four hours. To schedule a consultation, call us at 941-923-1736. You can also reach out online via Price Simulator, chat, or contact form.
