How Can You Tell If Lip Filler Migrated?
Filler migration is a process where injected dermal fillers move out of place. While it can technically happen at anytime the fillers are present, it usually happens within a few weeks of the injections. Overall, it is rare and most cases are completely preventable and treatable. If a patient is concerned that their lip filler has migrated, they may ask, “How can you tell if lip filler migrated?”
The most common sign of filler migration is a bump or lump appearing on the skin just above or below the lip. This can happen when the lips are overfilled, or when the body has a negative response to the filler. It is treated by dissolving the filler and generally does not cause issues as long as it is identified.
Occasionally, small nodules may occur outside of the lip area. In these cases, they can also be easily dissolved. Filler migration is almost always visible and can be immediately addressed. If your lips still look great and you notice no abnormalities, it is unlikely that the filler has migrated.
