Can You Give Birth After Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgery frequently performed after a woman has given birth to address an enlarged or elongated labia. However, some patients may experience this without having had children, often due to genetics. An enlarged labia can cause more frequent yeast infections, pain during sex, difficulty exercising, and cause a woman to avoid wearing swimsuits or fitting clothing. While a patient may be an amazing candidate for the procedure, they may be hesitant and ask the question, “Can you give birth after labiaplasty?”

The answer is yes. There should be no problems giving birth after a labiaplasty. The procedure only alters the exterior appearance of the labia. Therefore, the ability to get pregnant or have a baby should not be hindered. However, the various hormonal changes and stretching required during pregnancy and childbirth can lead to a reversal in results or some regrowth.

This may not occur in all women, but is a risk to consider before surgery. With that said, the actual ability to have a child following the surgery should not be altered. You should discuss your plans for the future thoroughly with Dr. Sessa so that he can help create a plan that works best for you.
