Can You Feel Your Nipples After A Breast Lift?

Breast lift surgery is one of the more extensive breast surgeries a person can undergo. It involves removing skin, breast tissue, and often the nipples and replacing them higher on the breasts. This obviously leads patients to understandable concerns about nipple sensation. Can you feel your nipples after a breast lift?

Immediately after a breast lift, usually, patients will not feel their nipples. Even if the nipples were not altered, numbness may still occur. Often, as they heal, patients may gradually feel some sensation come back. This is because the nerves will heal and–in a sense–reconnect to the nipple. Usually, this happens gradually over six to eight weeks.

However, a breast lift is one of the breast procedures with the highest risk of causing long term or permanent nipple sensation issues. This is due to the repositioning of the nipple. If you have concerns about maintaining nipple sensation, discuss this with Dr. Sessa as he will be able to create a plan and discuss the best course of action.
