Thigh Lift Sarasota

Beauty standards often apply to many parts of the body like the abdomen, lips, and arms. One that has caught more attention in recent years is the thighs. Depending on the decade and the trends, the thighs are supposed to carry a bit of weight, but skinny enough to have a noticeable gap when standing. While not naturally achievable for most, one aspect of the thighs that can be addressed is aging and sagging. Extra skin and fat can collect in the thighs due to age or weight loss. A thigh lift surgery can correct this. Dr. Alberico Sessa at Sarasota Surgical Arts performs the best thigh lift Sarasota has to offer.

Overview: What Is A Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin, fat, and tissue from the thighs to restore a proportionate and tightened appearance to the thighs. With aging or weight loss, the skin can lose elasticity and not retract well enough to match the contours of the thighs. This can contribute to the thighs looking larger than they truly are. It also may make the thighs look generally saggy.

The thigh lift procedure removes the extra skin and tightens the remaining skin for a more contoured, younger, and lithe appearance. Sometimes, depending on your anatomy and needs, Dr. Sessa may also recommend performing liposuction for ideal results.

Benefits

A thigh lift comes with many benefits, especially to weight loss patients. Every patient will likely find individual benefits of the procedure, but some of the advantages and benefits you may experience include:

  • Removes extra skin
  • Smoother thighs
  • Improved body contours
  • Removes stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise
  • Accentuates weight loss
  • Tightens loosened muscles, if necessary
  • Can create a thigh gap
  • May treat or reduce rashes and chafing
  • Can reduce the appearance of stretch marks
  • Long lasting results
  • Exercise may become easier
  • Incisions made as minimal as possible
  • Performed by a cosmetic surgeon with decades of experience

Types Of Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery in Sarasota comes in many different varieties. While some are more common than others, they all have indications for when they will provide the best results. Dr. Sessa can determine the right thigh lift for you based on your existing anatomy and goals for the procedure.

Mini Thigh Lift

A mini thigh lift typically only addresses the upper third of the thigh. It is the least extensive of all the thigh lifts and usually best for those who have a small amount of extra skin or fat in the area. Younger patients or those who may not have lost a large amount of weight may benefit from this procedure for thigh enhancement.

Inner Thigh Lift

Also called a medial thigh lift, an inner thigh lift goes a bit further than a mini thigh lift, but still will only address the upper, inner thigh. This area is prone to holding fat, even after significant weight loss. The incision may vary, but it usually is hidden in the groin area and may extend around the buttock depending on the extent of the procedure. Otherwise, it functions much the same as other thigh lifts, extra skin and fat are removed, and muscles tightened if needed.

Vertical Thigh Lift

A vertical thigh lift is one of the most common techniques. It addresses the entire thigh, including the upper, middle, and lower portions. To do this, it involves a vertical incision from the inner thigh as far down as the knee. While it often does not extend to the knee, this is the maximum extent of the incision. It tightens and smooths the entire inner thigh with effects often extending around the entire thigh. One of the drawbacks is that it does tend to leave a scar that could potentially be visible in certain positions or clothing.

Outer Thigh Lift

As the name suggests, an outer thigh lift addresses the outer thigh versus the inner thigh. It is not as common for the outer thigh to need to be addressed and the inner thigh to not. However, it can occasionally happen. Unfortunately, there is almost no way to adequately hide these incisions and future scars. Therefore, Dr. Sessa normally only recommends this procedure to those with large amounts of skin to remove.

Total Thigh Lift

Sometimes called a spiral thigh lift, this procedure addresses the entire thigh. This is not overly common and one of the newest forms of thigh lift. It includes the vertical and outer thigh lift incisions to remove the maximum amount of skin and tissue. This will likely result in addressing nearby structures such as the buttocks, lower abdomen, and potentially the waist. It may be part of a lower body lift.

Butt & Posterior Thigh Lift

A butt lift–not to be confused with a Brazilian butt lift–corrects sagging skin on the buttocks. When combined with a posterior thigh lift, it can also remove and lift skin from the back of the thighs. When performing a traditional butt lift, it is common to also do a posterior thigh lift.

Before & After Thigh Lift Surgery

Consultation

At your initial consultation, Dr. Sessa will first ensure that you are a good candidate for a Sarasota thigh lift. He will also create a personalized plan for your thigh lift surgery. The appointment may involve questions about your medical history, current and recent medications, lifestyle, and previous surgeries. He may also perform a quick physical exam.

Dr. Sessa will then determine if you are eligible for the procedure and describe his specific plan based on your anatomy. This includes the location and probable size of the incisions, if liposuction may also benefit you, and what you can expect from the results.

Surgery

The exact surgical technique will vary depending on your anatomy and needs. Regardless, a licensed anesthesia provider will place you under general anesthesia. Dr. Sessa will then make the first necessary incision and remove skin, fat, and unnecessary tissue from one thigh. He will repeat the process for the other thigh.

Dr. Sessa may also perform liposuction to remove fat from the thighs for a slimmer and overall better result. Though, this is not necessary for all patients to receive a good result.

Recovery

Following the surgery, you will wake up and spend an hour or two recovering in the office before going home with your caregiver. Patients may experience side effects such as swelling, bruising, pain, itchiness, discomfort, tightness, and redness. Though, side effects should visibly subside in about two weeks and are easily managed via post-operative medications.

You will likely need around one to two weeks off of work depending on your job and recovery process. Dr. Sessa will discuss this more with you at your consultation and your post-operative appointments. Otherwise, you should rest, eat well, take your prescribed medications, and elevate your thighs when you sleep.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES A THIGH LIFT GET RID OF CELLULITE?

Potentially. Cellulite is caused by fat placing pressure on the collagen bands that are part of the skin’s structure and scaffolding. Therefore, if this skin, or fat is removed, this could also get rid of the cellulite. However, there is no guarantee that a thigh lift will completely remove or treat cellulite.

CAN YOU HAVE A THIGH LIFT AND TUMMY TUCK AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes, if you are a candidate for both procedures and a combined procedure. A combined thigh lift and tummy tuck is a fairly extensive surgery. Therefore, it requires additional patient screening and the ideal patient to ensure safety. However, in a healthy, optimal patient, having a thigh lift and tummy tuck at the same time should not be a problem.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?

Candidates for a thigh lift typically have certain traits that make them at low risk of complications. However, some of these are not necessarily complete disqualifiers. Dr. Sessa will evaluate you on an individual basis to determine if you are a good candidate. Some traits that ideal candidates have include:

  • BMI under 40
  • Any major medical conditions are adequately treated
  • Do not smoke
  • Has realistic expectations for the procedure
  • Good overall health
  • Committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle after surgery
  • Does not have certain health conditions such as heart disease, blood disorders, lymphedema, deep vein thrombosis, or similar conditions

WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

Even ideal candidates do carry some risks. Any surgery does come with some inherent risk. However, with adequate patient screening, a sterile environment, and using the best tools and techniques, Dr. Sessa can minimize risk during surgery. The risks and complications that can occur, but rarely do include:

  • Infection
  • Seroma
  • Wound dehiscence
  • Raised or highly visible scarring
  • Asymmetry
  • Unsatisfactory result
  • Necrosis
  • Adverse reactions to anesthesia
  • Persistent or prolonged side effects

HOW MUCH DOES A THIGH LIFT COST IN SARASOTA?

The exact cost of cosmetic surgery is difficult to quantify without a visual or physical examination. This can help determine if liposuction is necessary, the right technique, and other factors that can impact the price. Following a consultation, either in-office or online, you will receive a customized price quote for your procedure.

Sarasota Surgical Arts does work with Care Credit. They can help finance your procedure and break it into payments so that it better fits your budget. You find more financing and pricing information on our price list.
